first item of business

i grabbed this blogspot address a while back to give (future) patients a forum to critique my work, ask questions, discuss dentistry, etc.

until then, i’m offering it to my classmates. this is the best way for us to come up with solutions.

we’ll separate useful criticism from whining. we’ll sort what we can change from the things we have to roll with. we’ll perfect our solutions. we’ll take our propositions to appropriate people.

i’ll post a blog, please post replies. recurring themes will make their way to a class-wide poll. high vote-getters deserve our collective attention and i will post status updates on action taken.

so here goes: what is our first item of business?

Is anybody else having problems with Blackboard today? I can't finish/submit the Prelab quiz tonight....earlier today I couldn't connect to get lecture slides, etc. Blackboard is killing me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anyway you could politely ask the professors to have their lecture slides posted on Blackboard by the morning before their lecture? If they post late in the day/evening we're left with no time to print out the slides to take notes on.

Hey Garret and everyone else!

Just thought I'd open a topic of discussion pertaining to our anatomy labs: I'm not really sure what goes on in all the different sections, but my class seems to be somewhat of a "free-for-all" and very unorganized arrangement of directionless students, bouncing around all over the place (looking dazed, frantic and/or flustered)...most of the time we're not completely sure what of we should be focusing on or looking at...it's simply killing me, the lack of direction or pre-planned instruction by our professors.

Sure, I'm not expecting another full lecture, and I know that students are obligated to come prepared...but at least the instructors could offer some guidance that's a bit more up to par with the tuition I'm forking over for this very valuable time.

Until that happens, our lab time will simply continue as a sort of "scavenger hunt" amongst the scattering of models, etc. (during which we'll be wondering the whole time: "did i look at everything i needed to?")

Someone please reply and let me know how you're feeling about this!

I agree with the above post. There needs to be some sort of structure in lab class. I mean the overall goal for lab is to learn where everything is but instead it has turned into a chunk of time where people study for the exit quiz.

Agree aswell, there is a lack of consistency between the different lab sections. I don't understand why the experiences of one student in lab x should be in any way different then another student in lab y...

new topic..

There seems to be even less structure in the GDS lab sections. From my interaction with some of the assistants in lab there is no direction for us to follow. Being new to everything and not knowing how to do things and never being taught but expected to perform is unacceptable in my opinion. Even when one seeks the advice of the assistants present they all give conflicting information that leads to even more confusion. Being given a $0.10 CD and told to watch a low quality, no sound, stop motion animation recording is not what I had in mind when I payed $60000+ per semester. I think this is unacceptable and we should ask more of a school that is expecting us to be at the "frontier" but not providing us with tools to achieve our ambitions.
