Blackboard sucks. Can't make it any clearer than that can I?! I'm not sure about anybody else, I would just like to take my test and be on my way, but once the commotion starts and people are having problems with Bboard I can't concentrate for a lick. On a timed test/quiz it should be QUIET and we should be able to do our thing.

I don't know about you people, but next week, I'm not using a laptop. Anybody want to join me? Stage a protest against Blackboard timed quizzes. Get on the band wagon. Make sure you bring your #2 pencil to use a scantron.

Seriously.

I think we can all agree that taking the weekly quiz on paper would be a lot better than on blackboard. Not only are there connection issues, but there are other benefits to taking the quiz on paper such as being able to skip to the next question and coming back to answer it later rather than wasting 5 minutes on one question. Because sometimes our brains just click later during the quiz and we suddenly remember the answer for the previous question, and not being able to go back is no good!

We take the GDS quizzes on paper, why can't we take the weekly quiz on paper?

So, I was thinking that we can use Quiz 4 as a test. As of this morning the class average was 8.7, not including the students who took the quiz on paper. When the paper quizzes are graded and the class average goes UP, that means that the paper quizzers did significantly better, therefore showing that they do in fact have an advantage. (and not to mention having less time! which actually makes the data bias toward the null hypothesis! so if there is still a significant increase that makes our case even stronger)

Maybe "advantage" is the wrong word, but you get the idea. We would all perform better with the standard format of paper + pencil.

I feel your pain Dave, but I don't think protesting is the right course of action. When half of the class can connect to blackboard, and half can't, this does cause a lot of commotion and disturbs the people actually taking the quiz. The more I think about it, the more I think this quiz should be dropped.

one recycle bin in the building (which i haven't found yet) for my morning paper would save more paper than the faculty avoiding scantrons.
